Brick Duck@JuliusGoat This is an interesting post, and I agree with the coop vs murder game aspect. But if Bad Bunny was chosen just to alienate, then how does that convince bigots to stop being bigots? They’ll think their paranoia is being affirmed and that they should strive even harder to be terrible. How is the half time show actually educational for them?
JJ Litke@woltiv @JuliusGoat The idea that Bad Bunny was chosen specifically to alienate is a bigot talking point, and it’s demonstrably wrong. He’s a top-selling artist worldwide, which fits perfectly with the NFL’s efforts to sell the rest of the world on football (case in point, the international games the NFL does).
Giving in to bigots and choosing someone specifically because they won’t object to that performer is playing a losing cooperation game.
CyI think Bad Bunny's Super Bowl show gave people hope, and proved to many that the bigots can't get their way. Don't really care whether it had an effect on bigots or not. The:
Democratic/centrist fetishization of bipartisanship and norms, and their capitulation and "reaching across the aisle"
...is not the same as accomodation, or kindness, or even tolerance. These centrists are bigots, complicit in bigotry, sabatoging themselves so they can pretend to be decent people, and prevent actually decent people getting voted in. They're throwing the game, not just failing to win it.
Not saying tolerance of bigots is a good idea, but the only person arguing that we should just give in and compromise with the bullies is one of the bullies hiding around the corner, speaking through a hand puppet.
