@martijnbraam Because given the high SSD prices some of the people buy HDDs instead, so it pushes the HDD price up.

I assume they're being used to store the millions of identical copies of wikipedia slop shops repeatedly scrape (and every other website)

Though a lot of this is probably panic buying causing automated pricing algorithms to freak out, supply chains rarely have any slack so an unexpected bump in consumer demand can wreak havoc.
