Many people in the free software (or as they like to call it, "open source") space are ecstatic about using proprietary American chat services accessed through a proprietary protocol with a proprietary client, as long as they have a good track record for curbing abuse, keep chat history, and are accessible on mobile and the web.

That is why we have made the decision to move our free software community to Steam Groups-

They didn't, their post and README is AI generated and the code doesn't do any of the core parts of matrix that make it secure and interoperable. Instead it's littered with 'TODO: Check authorisation' and similar
