A reminder, so people don’t forget. Substack unabashedly platforms and promotes literal Nazi publications.

If you publish on Substack or support authors there, you are paying rent for nazis. It’s that simple.

Refuse to support authors there, and they will move.

For folks who aren’t computer savvy…

The third image shows a screenshot of a command in my computer’s terminal. This confirms the nazi publication is live without using a browser.

The value is verifying its existence without giving Substack or their nazis any traffic stats. Also, I don’t want stain my eyes with their filthy website.

@markwyner in some cases they'll move off Fediverse to waters they won't be "scolded" in

which is a loss but tbh if that's the choice they make and the view they take, eh, not a big one

@jackeric yeah, I hate to sound like an ass. But I think scolding for supporting Nazis is okay.
@markwyner @jackeric Who is not willing to learn and make some slight changes, is the jackass.
Haha "scolded" : I think I know who you're referring to and it's crazy how many people piped up in support!
@markwyner DO NOT SUFFER NAZIS

@markwyner

I read substacks but I won't subscribe, donate or interact with them.

@monkeyben @markwyner

I won't even read them. It gives traffic to the site, opportunity for their algorithm to shove bad things at me, and reduces the incentive for writers to leave.

@project1enigma

I understand your actions, it's just for me, people like Carolle Cadwalladr put out information no other journalists do. For more trivial things on substack I tend to leave it.

@markwyner

@markwyner “Substack apologizes for glitch, but not for platforming Nazis.”
@markwyner According to that last picture, Cloudflare is also hosting nazis. Incidentally, it appears your Fedi instance, mas.to, is also using Cloudflare.

Seems a bit odd to be denouncing other platforms for hosting nazis when you're being hosted by similar nazis right now.
@markwyner
Thank you for the update.
It's a bit sad to unsubscribe some nice content but it is what it is
@jfparis man. You said it. There’s no doubt, it hurts. I’m not saying it’s easy to abandon good writers. Leaving them behind also doesn’t mean we wish them ill will. On the contrary, if enough of us go away, they’ll have to move elsewhere. That’s a win for everyone.

@markwyner

Substack is the worst platform for programming articles as it doesn’t have code highlighting and the only way to do it is screenshotting highlight.js. But I chose it above Dev.to and Medium since (in my opinion) those two are flooded with low quality articles these days. I want to migrate to Ghost for sure, but it’s not free like Substack while I’m not a dedicated blogger so I’ll never make profit but constantly lose money on Ghost.

@minsoochoo I completely appreciate that conundrum. There are other alternatives, too. You can even self-publish.

I used to write on Medium:
https://markwrites.io/why-i-left-medium/

Then I moved to Write.as:
https://markwrites.io/i-should-have-self-hosted-to-begin-with/

I’m willing to help anyone leave Substack. If you ever want help, feel free to reach out.

Mark W.rites - Why I Left Medium

On November 10, 2014 I published my first article on Medium. I had published other pieces elsewhere, but it was my first on this new-to-me platform. It was als…

Mark W.rites

@markwyner

Does Ghost support paywalling? And if yes, does it support removing the paywall from select articles? How about sending emails about all posts written there?

@Tuuktuuk @markwyner

IIRC that's the use cases for which the alternatives have been created too?

@markwyner thank you. I've been saying this repeatedly as well

@markwyner There are two things I appreciate about substack:

First, it gives the "resist heroes" a chance to really clarify what their personal price is and what the depth of their commitment is
Second, it makes very clear how much apparent political "activism" is just consuming entertainment...

So, yeah, publishing, reading, and reposting substack articles is a great way to to self-identify.
