The patient is a 13-year old MacBook Pro undergoing a radical battery and keyboard transplant. Fingers crossed that it survives the operation.

The patient is alive and charging out in the workshop. Unfortunately the keyboard transplant couldn’t happen because it is apparently soldered to the case. 😖
Thanks to @iFixit for parts and a comprehensive guide.
This fives me the confidence to tackle the younger cousin-a 10-year old who _really_ needs a new battery.
This MacBook Pro from 2012 is running Mojave (10.14) with Safari 14. Here is the Google results page. No ads. No AI. This is what we lost. Maybe I won’t upgrade this machine after all.
My daily driver for nearly 10 years, this MacBook Pro from 2015 has a swollen battery.
This repair was much easier. Only four components to remove before getting to the battery, which went straight to the hazardous waste drop-off.
Again, thanks to @iFixit for parts and an excellent guide. Who knows, maybe I’ll get another ten years out of it.
