This is an odd bird. I've undoubtedly seen this 757-200 TF-FIC at Portland before in IcelandAir livery. Now possibly doing the plane's last gig before IcelandAir retires all its 757s this winter, it's in an air charter company's livery, in reportedly all first-class seating. It's operated by IcelandAir for the air charter company. It's flying as ICE1437. It originated from Reykjavik yesterday and is now headed to Anchorage, Alaska. #KPDX #aviation #travel #avgeek

The 757 charter originated in Reykjavik. It obviously wasn't using Portland as a fuel stop on the way to Anchorage because it would have been shorter to just fly direct. But you have to go to the great circle route to see that - almost all polar routes are cases where flat-projection maps will fail you. So whatever the plane full of wealthy Europeans was doing, Portland had to be a planned tour stop. In the direction they're headed, I guess Japan could be next. #aviation #travel #avgeek #mapgeek
