i'm going for an event in IITM Research Park (https://osmapp.org/way/102580568) next month. got a train to chennai egmore from my place but confused how to reach from there. comaps gave me this route:
- walk: egmore railway to egmore metro
- metro: egmore to government estate
- walk: govt estate metro to chintadripet railway station
- train: chintadripet to taramani
- walk: taramani railway station to iitm research park

is this correct? is there a better route?

Return trains were at WL80 so booked a bus from Urappakkam to Ernakulam and then a train to my place. Again, confused how to reach Urappakkam bus stand. CoMaps couldn't help with public transport this time, so I made up this route with Wikipedia articles on Chennai suburban railway.

walk: iitm research park - thiruvanmiyur railway station
Chennai MRTS: thiruvanmiyur to chennai beach
south line chennai suburban: chennai beach to urappakkam
walk: urappakkam to urappakkam bus stand

Is there a faster way? this is on saturday btw, hope the suburban trains run on weekends too

@libreinator Kilambakam bus terminus? This is the moffusil bus you're talking?
@viz i'm not sure what mofussil means. you can choose boarding points from "kilambakkam new b.s.", urapakkam, guduvanchery and some other places in Chennai, and i selected urappakkam as i couldn't find any railway or metro near kilambakam. the bus is KSRTC btw

@libreinator this is the govt bus? It's been a long time since I went in these buses so idk if there's a prebooking thing.

Moffusil means out-of-town so any bus that goes to a different town and state would count as a moffusil bus

@viz yes, it's a kerala govt bus. if there's buses from IIT to Kilambakkam i'd prefer cancelling the ticket and booking from Kilambakkam to Ernakulam

@libreinator hmm I'd have to look into it to see if there's an easy way to get to kilambakkam (I dont think there is). The metro line around that area is still to be finished.

I think going to urampakkam is easier cuz you can catch the suburb train. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the trains so can't help you there

@libreinator here's a route I might consider (from the top of my head): catch the metro to meenambakkam, go to meenambakkam railway station (should be close by iirc), catch a train to urapakkam (guduvaancheri side) and walk to the bus stand.

There's prolly another railway station near IIT though I have no idea about this sorry.
