I was laid off in October after 13 years at Amazon and am still seeking a new opportunity. Please ping me if you know of a full-time remote role working on network and/or infrastructure security (on-prem and cloud-based). I also have experience with embedded/OT/IoT network security and wireless security. After hours I run a small network (AS46577) and fiddle with microcontrollers, embedded Linux, ham radio, and drones. Boosts appreciated. #infosecjobs #getfedihired #jobhunt #jobsearch

@ExplodingLemur

Please pick up ham radio. (Just a useful skill.)

@ExplodingLemur on prem where?
@SomeVeganCheeseIsOk on-prem as in traditional self-hosted infrastructure and services as opposed to cloud (aka someone else's computer)
@ExplodingLemur right but dude, where are you willing to work on prem? If you're in Seattle and the job's in DC, that's a long commute. Are you willing to relocate?
@SomeVeganCheeseIsOk I'm not in Seattle and relocation is not an option. I don't live near any tech hubs which is why I specified "remote" in my post.
@ExplodingLemur
am no techie, but I went thru a rough patch during covid. best of luck out there.

@ExplodingLemur what city?
@NBAnthony2k Remote. I'm on the US west coast but not near any tech hubs and relocation is not an option.
@ExplodingLemur you might look at Blue Origin if your in the Seattle area the IT infrastructure guy that our team usually works with just left. Not sure if the role is posted yet
@ansible42 I'm not in Seattle. I specifically listed "remote" in my post.
@ExplodingLemur sorry to hear that. Is there a way to get in touch with you privately? I can connect on LinkedIn to share info or if you want to share your email. Let me know. All the best.
@ExplodingLemur not sure what level you’re looking for, but we have a number of infra positions open including Principal Infra Security (levels go Intermediate > Senior > Staff > Principal). Some are region specific for timezones coverage but we’re fully remote. https://about.gitlab.com/jobs/all-jobs/

@artychan applied to a few roles there and was immediately rejected :( I don't have k8s experience which has hurt me for a few potential roles, despite having a grasp of containerization mechanisms of operation and related security issues. Also I'd probably fit more as the Staff level there, I was an L6/senior at Amazon (goes L4, L5, L6, and then L7 is principal)

@ExplodingLemur sorry to hear that. Yes, for our infra, k8s would generally be necessary. Not so if you’re interested in other security roles, or customer facing roles like support or professional services (such as implementation) since we have self-managed (on-prem) with different install options.

Sorry I can’t be of more help. Good luck with the job search.

@ExplodingLemur take a look at zillow !
