In my youth, I only read โ€œserious literature.โ€ Today I read mostly sci-fi, fantasy, and cozy Japanese novels where people learn heartwarming lessons from talking animals
This is a lie. Most of the books I read (by quantity and time spent) are now board and picture books ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
@tiffanycli But do the board books have people learning heartwarming lessons from talking animals?
@tiffanycli still counts. Rack up those numbers!
@tiffanycli
Same. I was a literature snob in college. Today, the last thing I want to read is a "realistic" novel about shitty, messed up people that has an unhappy ending. I read those stories in the news every day.
@tiffanycli
I hope you are not joking about the cozy Japanese novels where people learn heartwarming lessons from talking animals - recs please? ๐Ÿ™
@nyhan the hippo doesnโ€™t talk but I just read and enjoyed The Healing Hippo of Hinode Park by Michiko Aoyama

@tiffanycli

lol ... mostly same for me.

i went thru a phase in my early 30s where i wanted to read as many of the 'classics' as i could

with that done, i now gravitate toward 'thrillers' and sci-fi

that said.... Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar is neither, it is AMAZING and i recommend it every chance i get

@tiffanycli please recommend your favorite cozy japanese books! pretty please!
@tiffanycli for niche audience like you I'll write cozycore fanfics of Dostoyevsky. I'll be hundredaire.
