A bittersweet feeling as I start “The Regicide Report”; the last of the Laundry Files by @cstross.

For my money no other author comes close to pulling off this signature tongue-in-cheek-existential-horror-comedy. Charlie captures the GenX nerd spirit and twists it into wry commentary on how screwed up it all is these days.

It’s been a 20 odd year journey with Bob and co, one which I have enjoyed immensely.

@cstross @maugen I second this exact sentiment.

Same.

I've just embarked on a re-reading of that whole series. Oh, my, how far Bob has come.

(And I still laugh at the humor this time around.)

Gotta read SOMETHING while we wait for Charlie's next novel to be ready. If I finish the Laundry Files series too soon, I'll revisit the Merchant Princes series; I'm still fascinated to know more of the party on the other side of that dimensional gate.

@n1xnx @maugen @cstross I just started The Regicide Report today as well 😃 😢

@n1xnx @maugen @cstross I often re-read the whole series for each book. Probably won’t for this one.

Have re-read Merchant Princes 4 times, so good.

The Atrocity Archives, which I'm presently rereading with delight, features a Kettenkrad as a minor prop at one point.

I must confess here to a bit of IP theft; I stole that Kettenkrad and the basic notion of a secret alternate-universe bad-guy base, and used them in a D&D scenario I ran for my family some years ago. As I had hoped, the players in turn stole the Kettenkrad and escaped on it in a cloud of dust and ineffectual pursuit.

It got a dedicated parking spot in the game universe's Boston Common parking garage. Not far from the hidden entrance to the dragon's lair.

I regret nothing ;-)
