The video of my #FOSDEM 2026 talk on integrating the Fourth Research Edition Unix tape into the GitHub Unix history repository is now available online: https://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/FOSDEM/video/2026/h2215/DCDAUY-the_v4_tape_in_the_unix_history_repo.av1.webm

@CoolSWEng

What's that device that looks like a Mac Mini? Because judging from the wires coming out of it, it is very very not a Mac Mini. 😳

@argv_minus_one It's most likely a Saleae oscilloscope, used as a multi-channel A/D converter.
@CoolSWEng Is the first photo a look inside Al’s tape drive? I didn’t get a good look inside. The second photo is mine. I wish I had a better photo that showed the waveform live on screen as it was being read, but it’s still pretty good.
@thalia The photo of the red Saleae comes from Len Shustek's 2020 talk slides https://github.com/LenShustek/readtape/blob/master/VCF_Aug2020_01.pdf It's credited in the slides, but maybe not visible in the video.
