Former PM Stephen Harper at the formal unveiling of his portrait:
“Come together against external forces that threaten our independence and against domestic policies that threaten our unity. We must preserve Canada, this country handed down to us by Providence, preserved by our ancestors and held in trust for our descendants. We must make any sacrifice necessary to preserve the unity and the independence of this blessed land.”

Leader of the IDU said what? Wish Stevie would get a hobby already.
@Pinchy63 Harper's hobby is being co-founder of a company that invests in and builds surveillance equipment and Israel, but I thought the timing of a former PM from Alberta giving a speech about "forces that threaten our independence and against domestic policies that threaten our unity" was notable.
@Pinchy63 Don't forget, he's also on the Board of CircleK, which is why the date for convenience store booze in Ontario got moved up, costing taxpayers almost $1B. @AlisonCreekside
@AlisonCreekside says the man from the far right Atlas Institute. Surely people are not taken in by this?

@Geoffberner I'm not aware of Harper having any relationship with the Atlas Institute. Do you mean the International Democracy Union?

Conservatives are angry at Canada pivoting away from the US and some like Jivani are furious, so Harper inveighing "against forces that threaten our independence and against domestic policies that threaten our unity" is interesting, yes.

@AlisonCreekside Harper is just lying. He's a liar. He's part of the international far right networks. He's a Nazi.
@AlisonCreekside Policy. "Fuuuuck offf" seems to be the most appropriate response to this manufactured garbage.
@AlisonCreekside *conveniently doesn't mention indigenous*
Also things like "preserved by our ancestors" is always a red flag no matter the country and tend to be from the conservative side of talking
@Kuniti_shino Of course no mention of Indigenous. He's still Stephen Harper - it's just that in chidingTrumpy Cons he's doing something useful for a minute.
@AlisonCreekside “Providence” isn’t in our usual political vocabulary, but it’s better than “God” in this context, I guess.
@hamishb I'm just happy to see Harper gently pull the pro-Trump AB separatist rug out from under the feet of these Conservatives:
@AlisonCreekside
I throw up in my mouth a little bit every time I see #StopHarper's name, but for once, I agree with what he's saying. He's a huge influencer for the Forces of Evil in our country, so the pushback against the US Forces of Evil is welcome.
@AlisonCreekside Stephen Harper, right once again.
