21 Democrats vote to fund the government without any ICE restrictions

What’s the context here? Are these the Democrats who voted for the funding package? If so your premise is wrong. They voted to extend DHS funding at current levels until the end of next week. That is hardly “no restrictions”.

ICE already has its money, so voting “no” on this would not have affected its operations at all.

You’re thinking like a democrat.

Republicans recognize shutdowns as a tool to get what they want.

Which never works
It works for the republicans.
Government shutdowns have historically never worked. All you can expect is to gain favor with the voters next cycle.

never worked

All you can expect is to gain favor with the voters

So, it does work… Gaining favor with voters is how they can get back control of congress and put an end to this.

Yeah, exactly. As long as you recognize this isn’t about changing anything now and it is about winning the future election.

Because once the shutdown begins, everyone on Lemmy thinks that Democrats agreeing to open the government back up without any real concessions is a crime against humanity.

Even though they achieved the only goal they could possibly achieve, which is winning the public opinion vote.

It also means if shutting the government down could result in you losing favor, then it is better to just agree to whatever BS is necessary to keep the government open.

They can certainly do both. Make a small win to prove it wasn’t for nothing and show to voters they’re actually fighting for them.
