@GyrosGeier @adapalmer: Now I am confused. This is a 1995-1998 #Thinkpad 760ED on top of a 2002-2004 Thinkpad A31 #keyboard. Both have the Fn key as the leftmost key. Even the famous Thinkpad 701 with the Butterfly keyboard (also 1995) had it that way. So your "about 25 years ago" must have been at least 31 years ago and from the i486 age or earlier.
And yes, you could switch them in BIOS in at least some models.
Maybe @thinkpadmuseum can shed some light on the Fn key's history in Thinkpads.
@xtaran @adapalmer @thinkpadmuseum great now I feel old. :)
But yeah, my main objection to the Fn key on the left was that my normal key map for Descent did not work anymore, and I was playing that in '95/96.
@GyrosGeier: We are kinda old. 😇
@GyrosGeier @adapalmer @thinkpadmuseum @xtaran they always put the FN key there.

It being in the corner also meant you could turn on the ThinkLight(tm) easily because it was "bottom left" + "top right"
