It just felt like it took away some of the energy of the movie. I think it would have been better if it had been done like Andor, without any known characters. Not every Star Wars movie needs the appearance of the same old characters (also CGI Tarkin and Leia were really not needed).

It also was an aprubt tonal shift, just to tie it into A New Hope... I feel there was a chance there to carry some of the revolutionary energy better, but instead we got fan service.

Also the movie would have been better, if the Force had never been mentioned. And if Donnie Yen had gotten a role that is less loaded with orientalist stereotypes and instead one that tries to reckon with Star Wars long history of racism and orientalism, but in an honest way, not the racist clown show that Disney made in Solo, where a slave rebellion is played for laughs and ends with the revolter being lobotomized and turned into a nav computer...
