Whenever some politician or party apologist whines about having to stay on twitter because some of our potential voters are on twitter, remind them that probably even more of their potential voters are on pornhub but they are not active there.

@etchedpixels yes!

Yesterday at FOSDEM there was a question addressed to Alexandra Geese (a member at the EU parliament from Greens), saying why are not all politicians at fediverse? Her answer was like politicians are saying journalists are there.

LOL! Aren't journalists supposed to be where the politicians are, not the other way around?!

@alvan @etchedpixels

huh. so they admitted out loud that politicians like them are just publicity whores and not thought leaders and legislators/leaders that journalists will naturally want to follow?

@paul_ipv6 not really; they want to be where the engagement is, and at the moment it is twitter. Tbh, I am not expecting them to close their twitter accounts, but they can easily post stuff here as well. There are projects to use to easily cross-post!

@alvan

"engagement" is really a misnomer. in social media, it's just views, i.e. "how many people look at my posts and hang on my words".

@paul_ipv6 good point. Now that you mention it, engagement could be more on fediverse (iirc, Hank Green also found this fact out by practice).

Yes, it is just about the views.
