Ugh, same. The few that didn’t just drift apart over time showed their true colors over the years, all the way back to marriage equlity. Then there was the first trump term, the George Floyd protests, Ukraine, Palestine, second term, and now all of this…
I knew I grew up in a red state surrounded by cornfields and expected some to have differing opinions on hard-cutoff issues, but I didn’t expect the people who were seeing the same things I was to straight up deny reality.
And since I’ve become more withdrawn in recent years, I’m basically only friends with whoever my wife is friends with and that’s about it. I don’t have what I would call “real” friends anymore.
There is an old saying. “ it’s better to be alone than to be around people who make you feel alone.” It is kind of a sad reality check to think about, but in all honesty like I said, I would rather be alone forever and to have a relationship or a friendship like this.
Do an activity that you like, you will find new friends there.

I’m sure ICE took the time to examine the pistol while they were beating him and thought that they should take it and execute him on the street for buying/carrying a poorly made pistol. Such a dumb comment.
I support and respect law enforcement for what it is and acknowledge that they have a very difficult and dangerous job. I also comply with orders from law enforcement because I don’t want to make a bad situation worse. But just like any other job people become jaded and there are assholes the get off on the power they wield over others and you never which officer is going to step out of that car. However ICE are not here to serve and protect, they’re a bunch of idiots with a badge and gun.
While I believe that objectively tracking down illegal immigrants and dealing with them on a case by case basis and following judicial procedures is an absolutely necessary task, ICE is completely wrong in their means and methods. Police are supposed to deescalate and meet resistance with equal force, not beat people or shoot them because they got frustrated or thought it would be fun. I know ICE are not police but they do have a gun and a badge, and should be required to follow the Constitution and jurisdictional rates of the states.

I hope my view of the pulse of this community is just wrong, and someone can admit that police and even border enforcement (not necessarily through ICE as opposed to CBP) are necessary and not get their comment suppressed into oblivion.

Yea pretty much. I remember a few years ago he had a roommate that was a former police officer and I distinctly remember before meeting him. He told me in private to not say anything mean or rude about police officers or I would be asked to leave so instead, I remain completely silent for a few hours, then told them both that I had an upset stomach and had to go back to my hotel room and I didn’t speak to them anymore after that. He lives about four hours away from me and I would regularly go and visit him at least two times a year, but since Covid he has become more and more like this and withdrawn and just saying dumb stuff like this, it does suck because he is a friend that I have known for well over 20 years and I felt like he was almost a brother to me at times.
Fuck, now I’m mad that Metallica isn’t playing the Super Bowl. I feel like they’d probably try to play the new shit, but I’d watch that.
One thing I always asked him that always made him mad is when he complains about Metallica not playing the Super Bowl. He will always say that Metallica is so cool because they have never sold out but then I say to him if they play the Super Bowl that’s like the ultimate sellout and that really annoys him.
