Open Source is uniquely suited for still making international collaboration possible even when pursuing digital sovereignty. There should be conversations about how to structure the governance, do licensing etc. in open source projects for digital sovereignty.

@elbci well I wasn't saying just being open source by itself without any other considerations is enough, that is why I mentioned there needs to be conversations.

That said, my personal concern isn't whether this would be useful for Russia in particular. I wouldn't mind governance that rules out the Russian government getting any say at all. Which is not to say the developers you mention were actually working for the Russian government but in this context that's the way it would be relevant.

Russophobia needs to stop. Constantly making Russian people the "bad guys" in our collective consciousness just empowers Russian nationalism, as it would for any people. Thinking someone is your enemy is often a self fulfilled prophecy.
