I am not wise in the way of AirTags so could someone explain this to me…

You can use an AirTag “hidden" in your vehicle to track it, right?

But don’t AirTags “announce" themselves as being present to stop someone from dropping one in your backpack to track you?

So wouldn't an AirTag announce its presence to the bad guy who just stole your car and direct them to where it is so they can throw it away?

What am I missing?

@KingShawn they are good for everything except theft prevention
@darxmac Yeah they are useless as a prevention tool unless the Bad Guy knows they’re there. I’m more focused on the hows of the tracking and notifications.
@KingShawn since they require a nearby phone to relay signal they are most useful if you leave it behind and your phone will tell you that they are left behind. If they start moving you have to hope they are near a device
