I had a distinctly non #Italian dinner with friends last night. Can you #guess what the grey stuff on the plate is? It was delicious 😋

Haggis?

@ReggieHere Well guessed! Despite being English, I lived up in northern England for a good few years and developed a taste for #haggis. When Scottish people here in Italy go back to Scotland - usually around Christmas, I politely request a haggis. An Italian friend of mine quite likes it though the rest of my family and his family do not.

@alex_p_roe

That's fantastic. Introducing Italians to haggis ought to come with some kind of award!

@ReggieHere Ha! Of those who've tried haggis, only a minority appreciate it but that seems to be the case with haggis in general and I know Scots who are not haggis lovers. What I need is a haggis source in Italy and there is somewhere in Italy, in Tuscany, that might have and maybe even make haggis!

@alex_p_roe

That would be interesting. Does the EU's protected regional food rules still apply after Brexit?

...apparently haggis bolognaise is a real thing.

@ReggieHere Haggis bolognaise???!!! Never heard of it! I don't think the EU's protected regional food rules still apply after Brexit seeing is the UK is no longer a member state and basically cut just about all its ties with the EU!

@ReggieHere Curiously - via Wikipedia: Food writer Alan Davidson suggests that the ancient Romans were the first known to have made products of the haggis type.

@alex_p_roe

Interesting, altho I'm always a little sceptical of claims from the imperial powers that get to write the histories.
