Bazzite is joining the Open Gaming Collective, which honestly only has one irksome addition...Playtron, which is responsible for yet another crypto Web3 nonsense OS that will never see much success with polluting gaming with cryptocurrency. There has been a lot of failure with monetizing Web3 games and a lack of VC funding in that space (a trend that I hope stays the same).

Beyond that thorn in an otherwise amazing announcement; this collective is designed to reduce the duplication of effort, strengthen other members and still spoil Linux gamers with a variety of options for distros!

As well as improving the quality of the custom OGC Kernel they will be using to power the gaming distros that have joined Open Gaming Collective. As well as upstreaming patches made to Valve packages or other relevant projects to increase project quality!

A brighter future for Bazzite

Hi everyone! We wanted to share an update on the future of Bazzite and where we’re headed next. Some of you may have noticed that several of our repositories, such as our kernel and handheld input libraries, have recently been archived or sunset. The change reflects a broader effort: we’ve joined forces with other members of the Linux gaming ecosystem to build something more sustainable and more impactful for the entire community. Introducing the Open Gaming Collective The Open Gaming C...

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds oh they're pulling like a reverse Canonical :p that sounds great. Honestly I hadn't tried serious gaming on Linux for years and Bazzite has made it so easy.
@hwll Yeah, gaming on Bazzite has been one of the easiest experiences possible for me because of the gaming customization. Honestly, I have gamed plenty on Linux. General purpose distros are actually pretty good, it was never as hard recently. In the past, gaming on Linux was such a curse...before Valve up and invested in the platform. 😀

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds half of my gaming applications are just aliases to running arch or ubuntu through distrobox, so I can believe that.

I'm so not used to any games just being b plug and play on Linux haha. Like when I got Hytale and it Just Worked, it was a rail Year of the Linux Desktop moment for me. 🥲

@hwll I think in 2023 is when Linux gaming became a bit more plug and play; it was often troubleshoot and hope you get it right in the darker years! Or running in distroboxes with customization that could help ease the pain.

I am a bit more used to it especially when Canonical started to invest heavily in driver support and the like, which makes gaming easier in general.

Flatpaks changed a lot for Linux Gaming too...It could be the year of the Linux Desktop finally! Over time, as Microslop is setting their whole Broken Window OS on fire with Slop Engines.
