@pewterbaw yeah, I reckon that would work - though I presume you'd intend to pre-fry the square susage? Otherwise it might fall apart in the soup. Hopefully if fried it would stay in chunks.
I guess depending on the rusk/meat content it might hold together raw too but I wouldn't trust that without testing. I use "normal" sausage in soups/stews but fry them first then post-frying strip off their casings (not a problem with square sausage!)
