It. Works.

It's not even *hard*. There's so little fiddling. I mean, it's not "click a button and it does it itself," but it's damn close.

My Gnome calendar can *write to* iCal. Fantastic.

How to sync iPhone calendar with gnome-calendar

If you are a Linux user and you own iPhone, you might know, how hard it can be to integrate Apple’s proprietary services with open-source ones. Luckily there is an easy way how to synchronize the iCloud calendar with gnome-calendar because Apple is using the CalDAV standard. You could use NextCloud to host your CalDAV server, but for the sake of simplicity, we will use iCloud calendar. The system I am running is Fedora 37 Beta with Gnome 43 and iPhone 8 with iOS 15.

Holy shitballs, it populated my contacts and my reminders, too! I've been wanting this for a year.

Linux *gets better* the longer I'm on it. Problems are actually solved. Upgrades are *up*grades, not just a new skin over top of more efficient data collection.

I'm so glad I made the switch!

@OrionKidder That's so cool. Now to get an open source phone. I'm still trying to get brave enough to flash GrapheneOS over my Pixel to do that.

@TheRandomWalk @OrionKidder Random comment from a another random mastodon wanderer, but I absolutely suggest going for it with GrapheneOS. It's taken some tinkering figuring out my banking app (ended up getting it working on a secondary profile), but everything generally works well! Only thing that I can't figure out are parking apps!

Also to OP, this is encouraging to hear! I'm planning on switching from Kubuntu to Fedora to try something a bit different, something more up-to-date!

@baroqbard @TheRandomWalk The banking stuff is, I think, solvable by using their websites instead of their apps, esp. since their apps are just websites with a "wrapper." I don't know what that means, exactly, but I've seen my banking app reload like a website, and that's good enough for me.

Parking apps are difficult. In my city, more and more parking is app-only, no physical machine, which I think is classist as hell, but it's how government create the illusion of saving money, so her we are.

@OrionKidder @baroqbard @TheRandomWalk in Brazil, unfortunately, all banking sites demand the phone app to access the site as a 2FA device. If you lose the phone you are screwed so I leave an old phone at home with the banking apps. A very frustrating situation.
@villares @baroqbard @TheRandomWalk Yeah, there's more and more of this: forcing people onto phones so that they're trapped inside international copyright law and can't protect themselves from data suction and "AI" extraction.

@OrionKidder @villares @baroqbard And if you want your AI chats saved you have to sign in and sign over your roghts to your data. It's virtually coercive. Paris Marx' Tech Won't Save Us podcast is all over this. The Gray Area w,/ Sean illing, Doomscrolling w/Josh Citarella, Science Fiction w Damien Walter have some things to say, and the Late Night Linux Family 'casts some of those lads run GrapheneOS.n Do me a favor don't subscribe on iTunes or Spotify #forkiversepodcasts
