Reading police opinions about ICE on Reddit.

They’re really not happy.

They think the whole situation in Minneapolis is a complete gong show, that ICE lacks training, and that they shouldn’t be allowed to hide their faces.

On top of that, they believe ICE is going to cause them harm because, in the public’s mind, there’s no difference between them and ICE.

I mean Seattle local cops maced like a six year old in the face in 2020, then washed that down by teargassing an infant in their crib a few weeks later.

The only difference between local cops and ICE in practice is that one of them are federal cops.

@atomicpoet

@nullagent I’m not defending local cops but we can’t deny a major escalation has occurred. A few officers, while off duty, have been threatened by ICE—specifically those of colour.

No doubt, though, ICE exists because regular cops have been militarized.

Caveat here: I am not an American. But as a Canadian watching this unfold—just a few kilometres from the border—this is scary as hell. Especially with all this annexation talk.
@atomicpoet I wonder how many of them are on the ground, protecting the protesters against ICE.
@DavidBHimself A few of them have been stopped by ice and threatened by them while they’re off duty.
Chris Trottier Just the police of colour, though, from what I understand.
@atomicpoet Mmm, they should start arresting ICE agents then, if they want to show that there's a difference between cops and ICE.
@Andres4NY I wonder what would happen if an ICE officer were to be arrested.

@atomicpoet I imagine a lot of bluster and fury by Bovino, Noem, and the other federal goons... then a state official (governor?) would probably intervene and quietly have the ICE agent released so as to not jeopardize any federal funding. I can't imagine any state actually moving forward with prosecution.

However, the symbolism of an ICE agent getting arrested and even temporarily detained/incarcerated would be pretty huge imo.

@atomicpoet

I have some sympathy, but US police organizations have done plenty of damage to their own reputations without ICE's help. ICE is just more blatant about it and more powerful.

There are going to have to be many reckonings for this country to become stable again. A lot of lies are going to have to be exposed and a lot of aspirations are going to have to have practical implementations that are decades overdue.

Getting rid of the current Fascist regime is just the beginning of a very long road.

If anything good comes from this era, it will be that it opened many more people's eyes to ugly truths that needed airing.

@atomicpoet The boot asks: are we the baddies????

@atomicpoet each of those statements is true.

I want to know when they’re going to get off Reddit and and DO something about it.

I mean FFS this is literally the situation for which their holy doctrine the second amendment WAS actually intended.

All the chuckleheads who like to say the fix for a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun? They’re on Reddit complaining that some other guy with a gun is ruining their good name?

Yah. ACAB.

@atomicpoet

They're correct.

There is no difference. They're all fascists.

Looking out the windows, it could be summer. But it's 15°F/-9°C out there. If it's going to be this cold we really, really, really could us snow because all that insane amount of rain we got a month ago ain't sticking around for when it actually is summer.
The fact that they think the problem with armed gunmen kidnapping and torturing people, and shooting them dead on the streets, is a lack of sensitivity training... it makes me less than sympathetic of said cops. There's a reason people lump them together with ICE. You can be a good person, and still stand for very bad things. Isn't it convenient that the police are saying giving the police more money is the solution to this?
