Hey, US TikTok users, did you know that one of the worst of the vile techlords -- Larry Ellison, who's totally in bed with Trump -- now has control of your personal data from that site?

And his minions will help decide what you see there.

The deal to secure TikTok’s future in the US has finally closed

The joint venture acquiring TikTok’s US assets has been formally established and has announced its leadership team, according to the company, one day before the deadline set by President Donald Trump for the app’s US assets to be spun off by Chinese parent company ByteDance.

CNN
@dangillmor … and also has fine-grained control over the distribution and reach of your content?
@dangillmor None of this (and similar) stopped most lefties from bashing Biden for trying to rid us of the TikTok scourge presumably because they feared they’d have to spend more time with the kiddos.

@dangillmor Good think we got Loops.Video picking up the slack from #fediverse side!!

Thanks @dansup !!

@dangillmor

My understanding is that this was the whole point of the coercive takeover. Being Chinese owned, the feed was not toeing the pro US govt propaganda line. All of this especially came to a head with the latest round of the Israeli genocide.

And so, the enforced takeover by a committed Zionist

@dangillmor

Not a new strategy at all. The Nazi`s had film, radio and the newspapers at their disposal.

Leni Riefenstahl, the Volksempfanger and the Volkischer Beobachter.

Everything you need to influence and program the public opinion.

@[email protected] @[email protected] [Actually, the Nazis had Computers and TV also, but did not understand the power of both and did not need it as they already were in power. The olympic games in Berlin 1936 were the first ever event with live TV coverage. The Zuse Z3 was in the early 1940ies the first computer. Without the Enigma encryption machine and without hollerith machines the seclnd world war would not have been possible.]

@Life_is @dangillmor

Well, I was referring to technology available at that time that has proven to influence the masses.

Electromechanical computing has been around a long time, Babbage, Lovelace, Hollerith being names in 19th and early 20th century. Baird, London, 1920s, demonstrated a working television system.

Unfortunately, war is a good inspiration for innovations, radar, jet engines, sonar, encryption, rocket technology. The British broke Enigma code early in the war (Turing).

@[email protected]

Turing did not break Enigma. On the Eve of the war Turing (and more members of the french and british secret service) visited a small forest in poland, where the polish Biuro Szyfrów was located. He was given a working polish replica of the enigma, the plans for the bomba (in english bomb) code breaking machines and the punched papers that performed as the software fed to the code breaking machines. Marian Rejewesky and his colleagues had aquired an enigma machine in the early 30ies that had been misdirected by mail. It was disassembled, fotographed, rebuilt and returned to Germany. During the following years the polish secret service analyzied all german training transmissions. But in 1939 poland realized, that it will be overrun in the first days of a war and contacted the french secret service, which resulted in the invitation to Turing. First thing in the war: germany replaced all training code book with war time code books thereby looking out all allied listeners. Using the polish machines and code books aquired by traditional espionage Turing was able to get access again.

Starting in 1939 without this knowledge, the enigma would have been, what the nazis claimed it was: unbreakable.

@dangillmor

@[email protected] @[email protected] BTW: this story is widely unknown, because after the war UK claimed that the Enigma was unbreakable and sold it to all commonwealth countries - the former colonies - to be able to listen to all their secrets. When Turing was convicted for being homosexual, he was not allowed to say he was a war hero who single handedly saved the UK, as this would have made an end to the british enigma use. Instead he committed suicide.

@dangillmor

I, for one, feel very reassured that influencers peddling new caffeine beverages and dance trends are no longer crammed down my throat by China. A conglomerate consisting of China, Larry Ellison, an Emirati venture fund and a bunch of Trump aligned Bitcoin Bros feels much more well-balanced and reputable.

@dangillmor never more glad that I avoided TikTok from day 1
@dangillmor not just US! the algorithms fuckery has been pushing weird Russian content (promoting Russian nail salons and dance studios???) that doesn't have the tag spam or likes to explain why its "for" me

@dangillmor

Out of curiosity, what did China get, besides money?

@dangillmor the average user of TikTok, or any platform really, doesn't know or care who has their data. No one cares how the sausage is made and that fact is directly related to the condition the US is in. The time to pay attention was 30 years ago.
@[email protected] the average user of tiktok will care the moment ICE breaks their door without a warrant and deports or executes them in spite of being white and WASP for having supported a domestic terrorist according to data from tiktok that has been hallucinated by chatgpt. @[email protected]
