Layoffs finally caught up with my team. My office at Harvard Medical School was restructured this winter and my role has been eliminated.

In the posts that follow, I talk about my job exp, what I'm looking for next, and how you - yes you, reader - can help.

I learned and accomplished so much working with truly phenomenal peers and generous faculty partners at HMS. I began as an eLearning Designer, operationalizing and adjusting online courses for clinical/translational researchers. My first 0->1 project was creating and launching a Genomic Medicine course in 2022. It featured lectures from over 20 faculty that our team recorded and produced totally remotely (a process we adopted in the early covid years and stuck with throughout).

The decision to record multiple faculty and do so remotely allowed us to secure first-time teaching experience for many early-career clinicians who were seeking the experience to land or advance in their academic appointments. We strived to leave a positive impact not just with our users, but our partners too.

I was promoted in 2024 to Sr. Product Manager of Digital Learning, through which I had the pleasure to build and implement an on-demand modality for our digital offerings. This was a gamechanger for our operations. Where implemented, the modality showed statistically-significant gains to learner satisfaction and outsized impact to retention (course completion over doubled).

The year 2025 brought disruption, though. The NIH grant that partially funded our operation was elminated in the spring around the same time the federal government sued Harvard, squeezing our school’s budget even tighter. Despite favorable rulings in the courts, sufficient damage had been done. I wish I could have continued the role and my contributions to the Harvard community for longer.

With a background cutting across education, design, and product management, I’m seeking roles where I can help build impactful educational tools and facilitate enjoyable learning. I love working for schools and nonprofits, and would gladly consider industry alternatives with the right blend of culture and mission.
