I think I got there in time! The Varta battery on this 486 motherboard I recently added to the collection already started foaming, but I don't think any of it got on the PCB yet.

@gmc It looks very ripe, but looking at the second picture, it seems you got there in time. I've had couple of arcade boards where the battery leak was literally covering the whole board and all there was to say, was Bob the Builder to announce that it's fucked.

It looks like a tiny amount may have found it's way into the keyboard connector (the board was mounted vertically so the battery was above the keyboard connector). I'll be applying a splash of vinegar just in case. Doesn't look like much damage was done though. Otherwise the board (and the machine in general) looks to be in very good condition! All PCBs are still shiny :)

I've seen much much worse too :)

After all, I don't think anyone had a look at that board for at about almost 25 years.
Would have probably had to have been a ghost otherwise...

@AngelaScholder @apzpins I'm surprised how clean it is! Properly stored, that's for sure. And battery leakage, that is unfortunately unavoidable. I'm glad it's only very very minor on this one!
