Remembering to look up (std) library docs, knowing how to read them fast, recognizing that what you're doing might be already done for you - that's also a skill! And like any other skill, use it or lose it. The more you defer to the LLM, the worse you'll be off without it.
Csepp 🌢@q3k @Rin3d It's important to keep in mind that currently these companies are losing money on genAI. If they want to become financially sustainable (they don't give a shit about the more important kind of sustainability) then they will have to increase prices by a lot.
When I ask myself whether I want to grow dependent on the infrastructure of these few megacorps, even if I was a purely selfish asshole who didn't give a shit about the harms these companies are doing to others (btw any money you give to them goes to Trump), I will still answer "no", because they are never going to provide enough value to justify such a dependence.

Z̈oé@uint8_t @csepp @Rin3d I believe the signal of using/paying for the model is more valuable for the companies than whatever money I can burn in return. They know they're loosing money, in fact burning more money than their competitors (ie. having more regular users) is a sign of success for their investors.

I didn't learn that Carrot from Pepper & Carrot is a black cat, I didn't learn that the bottom side of a Space Shuttle orbiter is white, I didn't learn that killall kills processes by name in Solaris.
And I didn't not learn more because I didn't really try to play more with such LLMs.
