One of the things I occasionally get paid to do by companies/execs is to tell them why everything seemed to SUDDENLY go wrong, and subs/readers dropped like a stone.

@garius Yes to all of this. Companies can't look at cancellations or complaints, because by that point people already know how to switch away and are just waiting for the final straw. I don't even know that they can rely on user sentiment in outside forums. They have to look ahead 2-3 steps in their plan and ask how people are going to respond _then_, and adjust the plan to avoid hitting the limit.

And _that_ requires looking at more than this quarter and next quarter.
