The only thing that's going to prevent ICE from becoming a federally sanctioned death squad is prosecuting agents who murder.

@petergleick Locally prosecuting them in a state court, maybe.

Let me know when Minn PD have all of Ross’s ICE squad in custody and remanded to jail as a flight risk.

Time was where the feds had to intervene against local corrupt police out on a murder spree. Now we have the exact opposite.

@petergleick during the dictatorship in #Brazil of #ErnestoGeisel, a #dictator helped to get in Charge by #USA's # support of a #coup #ICE-like units rapidly became #murdersquads. #Geisel was a#German just like #Trump, with # fascist blood thick as tar.
@petergleick I gloomily predict they will not do this. Nothing will happen (in legal terms)
@petergleick yes surely the government will save us from the government
@petergleick watch the Dems win the midterms and take Congress. Then we'll see.

@petergleick

And Congress shutting it down.

@petergleick
I've always understood it's virtually impossible to prosecute federal agents for what they do during work hours?

5 Words to Fix ICE

@petergleick

My dude, death squads have no reason to fear lawyers; they have to be dealt with kinetically. Citation: [all of recorded history]

@petergleick The only thing that's going to prevent ICE from becoming a federally sanctioned death squad is the disposal of the fascist regime, including its oligarch overlords.

You can take a look at German history to see how well the prosecution of SA members worked out once Hitler was in power.

@TobiWanKenobi @petergleick but in this case Hitler is already in power. So it's a lost cause. We will need to go throzght this world war thing AGAIN!
There are 70 Million voters who still want the world to go through a thermonuclear war.
So amazing.
Too bad it will happen before I die.

@gunstick

It's a lost cause if US citizens deem it acceptable. The fascist in the White House and his goons are people made out of flesh. If the people of the USA are dissatisfied with their government, they can physically remove it at any time. The fact that it's not happening just means that a bigger part of the US population either doesn't give a fuck or supports the fascist administration.
You say 70 million voters are pro-Trump, but the US hosts 350 million people in total, so if the other 280 million say, "Fuck Trump and his Nazi friends," they just need to stand up and get rid of Trump and his Nazi friends.

People need to start realizing that governments don't come into existence out of thin air. Governments, be they democratic, socialist, autocratic, or whatever, represent the people living in the country (which doesn't mean that all people in a country are always represented by the government). But it's always the people of a country who are accountable and responsible for their governments.
Just like WW2 wasn't Hitler's war, but the war of Germany and its people.

@petergleick

@petergleick I think that ship has sailed unfortunately.
@petergleick We’re about 12 months too late for that. It’s time to talk seriously about what it would mean for us to neutralize them.
@petergleick Prosecuting entire squads who murder. Prosecuting superior officers who cover up murder.
@petergleick in that case, they already are a federally sanctioned death squad because DHS takes over and then buries any investigation that could yield any prosecution of ICE agents
@petergleick I think it's going to take more than that.
