because a lot of y’all are under the impression people in #Iran are rioting to live in Fuck-Yeah-Capitalist-USA Iran.

NO.

the “economic turmoil” in Iran is about #climateCrisis: the chaos of having no #water.

The decision to move Iran’s capital is partly driven by climate change, but experts say decades of human error and action are also to blame

i keep reminding y’all, Adam Smith didn't write about Economics. he was a professor of Moral Philosophy who wrote about POLITICAL ECONOMY.

ECONOMIES ARE POLITICAL; especially when you turn them into weapons of mass destruction of natural resources.

what is happening in Iran will happen in every country where they put profits before people.

After Ruining a Treasured Water Resource, Iran Is Drying Up

Iran is looking to relocate the nation’s capital because of severe water shortages that make Tehran unsustainable. Experts say the crisis was caused by years of ill-conceived dam projects and overpumping that destroyed a centuries-old system for tapping underground reserves.

@blogdiva

I remember reading literally 20 years ago that every war fought in the second half of the 21st century will be over water.

@johnzajac @blogdiva

It will be and the data center explosion is adding a new scary twist. It will happen sooner now.

@blogdiva Tech bros will be telling us AI will save on water consumption as the last drop of water is sucked out of the municipal water supply.
@blogdiva We are all on that list. That is what the climate global catastrophe means.

@blogdiva To wit: the dummies are intent on draining what's left of the Ogallala Aquifer for their data center complex in Amarillo. Ain't a lot of water in Amarillo, folks.

Texans Are Fighting a 6,000 Acre Nuclear-Powered Datacenter

"They're being told that this is inevitable," a member of the 806 Data Center Resistance told 404 Media. "But Texas is this other beast."

404 Media

@mlrife @blogdiva

And this means that most of New Mexico will also have no water as that is the only underground resource. What's not been drained for fraccing now goes to Amarillo for this nonsense.

I'm from that area (Lubbock). It used to be green. Farms. Not anymore. Desertification is taking over.

@TheJen @blogdiva I don't know what's worse; the water or the fact that Rick Perry is in charge of the company allegedly building the nukes. (Spoiler: there will be no reactors so it will be infinite methane generators spewing pollution.)
@mlrife @blogdiva YUM! Well, Perry is from that area too. His father owned a cattle ranch up there. He knows there's no friggin water. But he's a fool, so...

@blogdiva Water is definitely an issue. But it is so much bigger than that. Decades of oppression. An economy that has been completely and intentionally mismanaged. Public funds not spent for public good but distributed to Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis. Weaponisation of religion an excuse for abuse and denial of basic rights. Women treated as less than second class citizens with no rights beyond their father or husband.

We don't have to distill things down to one root cause. Our job is to help spread the will of the Iranian people against their fascist government. Not to tell them or others what they are fighting for. Let's just support. Please.

@blogdiva

thank you for highlighting this, the water situation across Iran is terrifying.

has more observations:
"
Iran faces a rural collapse with 31,000 villages deserted due to drought and water mismanagement. Officials report a massive demographic shift as drying wetlands force millions into cities.
