Cities covering the cost of social services is being labeled as “bad news.”

That label is doing a lot of ideological work.

In reality, this may be the beginning of a long-overdue shift: moving the cost of running a city away from workers, and toward those who own the land.

This shift is good news, not bad news!

Have you considered, however, that the higher governments are setting the standards the municipalities must meet?

Telling someone they have to meet X standard, but not providing the budget to do so, nor allowing the necessary taxation authority to raise the required revenue, is simply unacceptable - for landowners, the municipality citizens, or its business and industry. It guarantees dysfunction.
