Best Android emulator for the Steam Deck? Open to suggestions next to Waydroid.

#AskFedi #SteamDeck #AndroidEmulator #SteamOS

Should I have asked specifically, best Android emulator for Linux? 🤓 I'm surprised no one's replied yet.
@Radgryd what do you not like about Waydroid that should be addressed in a suggestion for an alternative and what is your use case?

@0 I read about Waydroid not being stable, with frequent crashes, that's why I was curious to see if people are using something else!

My use case would be to play Legends of Runeterra on my Steam Deck.

@Radgryd Waydroid is still the least amount of hassle, if you really need Android. Something to try if LoR doesn't work well on Waydroid would be dualbooting into Android (Bliss OS / Android-x86). That requires more tinkering, but might improve stability if that was a problem on Waydroid to begin with. I also don't know if LoR supports Android on x86, so that path might be a dud depending on compatibility.

My real question: Does it have to be the LoR Android version specifically? Because if not, and LoR is the only Android game you care about running the Windows version of LoR via something like Lutris (Wine) might actually be your most solid bet.

@0 Hmm, I don't know if LoR will still run through Lutris since they integrated it into the Riot client, but I will likely try Waydroid first and then see how stable it is.. and get back to you.

@Radgryd I think Lutris would work, given that they have an entry for the Riot version on this page https://lutris.net/games/legends-of-runeterra/

Sadly I have no first-hand experience with LoR, but it sounds promising

@0 I saw that too, might actually give it a try. My understanding was that with the kernel-level anticheat, and LoR's integration into the Riot client, it wasn't working anymore. But I found a reddit thread that says otherwise, from just a few months ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/LegendsOfRuneterra/comments/1nenx2l/runeterra_on_linux/), and this site seems to be keeping Riot's other games up to date: https://leagueoflinux.org/other_games/legends_of_runeterra/
@Radgryd I think I tried Android-x86 but I'm afraid I can't help with that as I didn't fiddle with it for long.
@Radgryd WHERE ARE THE FRIGGING LINUX REPLY GUYS WHEN YOU NEED THEM SMH
@Radgryd tbf I think you didn’t open the firehose of Linux peeps because of not using a #Linux hashtag 😬
Only here to see if anyone else responds. Looking for a way to play a bunch of those #games I have on #itch that are #android only. 👀

@fdroidorg not exactly the emulator I’m picturing, but I’ll definitely check it out. Thank!

@Radgryd
I haven't used Android apps on Linux yet, although I use Linux for 20 and Android for 15 years now, so I have no recommendation for you. I'm sorry. 😅

First search spit out Waydroid but a) you can google too (and probably have) and b) you specifically excluded that one.

@momo Yeah, I read about Waydroid not being stable with frequent crashes, that's why I wanted to see if people are using something else :D
