Who wants #icepics? here are some, the river is the Hudson River, about 60 miles north of NYC

@grammasaurus @SRLevine For a second, I thought you were offering "ice picks", which we could definitely use.
@grammasaurus @SRLevine That's basically a skating rink down our front walk.
@ECityMom @SRLevine ooph! no fun walking when it’s like that!
@grammasaurus @SRLevine Nope. I'm essentially a recluse in winter now. We never used to have so much ice. We've had over a foot of snow over the past week, so people have struggled to keep up with shovelling (especially over holidays), and now it's raining on top. Our city did neighbourhood renewal a few years ago, and we got seriously into it with them for not adding/improving drainage while they were at it, and they said it was not needed. Except that was based on very out of date data, not accounting for significant changes in freeze-thaw cycles brought about by climate change.
So yeah. Winter is basically ice town around here.

@ECityMom @SRLevine do you know about YakTrax? (or similar)

They strap onto your shoes, the chain-grippers give you traction in snowy/icy conditions. A real game changer!

As for cities using out-of-date data….that seems to be a universal problem.

Walk Plus Traction Device

@grammasaurus @SRLevine Sure do! I actually have a pair of boots with cleats that flip over so you can use them or hide them. They're great in a lot of cases, though they're getting pretty worn, but on sheer surfaces, they're no better than shoes.
