Percival Pembroke - Pembroke Autumn/Winter Catalog
i'm a huge fan of Percy's stuff, very classy arpeggiating synth works. this collection is from 2015.

Scanner & Modelbau
i went through a big phase of listening to Frans de Waard's stuff as Modelbau recently, as i was really in the mood for grey, industrialish drones. his collab w/ Scanner is a lot prettier than any of his solo stuff, but you can hear the tension between Rimbaud's pastoral sounding loops and FdW's unsettling, noisier tendencies. fantastic record (and even released in 2025!)
10 track album
Yosuke Tokunaga - 5 doubts 5 occurs
strange rhythms and decaying atmospheres adding up to a kind of ambient that's hard to pin down, and constantly surprising. i've been digging into his albums and he's quite an interesting composer.
https://entangledvisions.bandcamp.com/album/5-doubts-5-occurs
10 track album
Shuta Hiraki - Fossils and Vein
i bought the entire discography of Chemifaserwerk's tape label Falt, and have been working my way through it. this has been a standout so far, some evocative little miniatures of electronic hum and crackle.
10 track album
Phil Struck - Schleswig-Holstein Aufnahmen
a lo-fi set of tones, beats, and textures vaguely informed by dub techno, but landing somewhere closer to the murkier output of Cluster.
https://philstruck.bandcamp.com/album/schleswig-holstein-aufnahmen
17 track album
Harold Budd - The Room
the beginning of the year had me at the tail end of a big obsession w/ Budd's music. this album from 2000, named after a track on the earlier album the White Arcades, is a typically beautiful work, with his simple piano motifs giving structure to quivering tonal atmospheres. longing and loss, calm, longing and loss.
no bandcamp link, sadly
Terekke - Improvisational Loops
how can i impart the weird way this album effects me? it's a soft, unassuming ambient album from 2018. to me it feels like echoes of lost pasts, and possible futures
8 track album
Forrest Fang - Perihelion
this is the first, so far only album by Fang to have made an impression on me. his work often feels cloying and saccharine. in this case his new age / world fusion thing really works for me. lots of very interesting microtonal percussive lines that feel like an alternate path between west coast minimalism & berlin school synth. does it still feel like something corny that would have played in a Natural Wonder store in the 90s? sure.
10 track album
Ø - Oleva
this is the only album i will recommend with a Pink Floyd cover on it. Mika Vainio's typical stark minimalist beats and unique sound palette is always captivating.
12 track album
Nikolaienko - Rings
2021 album from this Ukrainian artist based in Estonia. it is the interplay of many lo-fi tape loops adding up to something quite pleasant.

Gregg Skloff - And The Flairwell Four
i always think you can dip into any of Skloff's albums and you'll find something really great. this one's no exception. bass guitar + effects add up to a really serene set of vignettes.

Tetsu Umehara - Handwritten
inspired by the architecture of imagined places, it's a compelling set of effervescent synth bubbling, field recordings, and the odd string instrument fumbling around and bumping into corners.

Autechre - AE_2022-
i've been living with this gigantic collection of (so far) two years worth of concert recordings for most of the year, putting two or three on my work playlist for a few weeks, until i start to get my head around individual shows, then moving on. doing it this way, i can hear the progression of how s & r approached the material over time... it's been pretty rewarding process as a listener.
19 track album
Loula Yorke - speak, thou vast and venerable head
propulsive modular synth zones with a fuzzy, soft sound palette. someone else said "kosmische music" and yeah, i can see it.

Field Lines Cartographer - Groundwaves
2018 release from @FieldLinesCartographer
he has a brand new one out that i'll probably list further down the thread, but i revisited this one in 2025, and i think it's overall my favorite of his things. really heavy synth zones.

Guenter Schlienz - Organ Studies
a 2023 release that sounds like ecstatic music from pre-new-age 70s. calm, droning throbs and crystalline pings echo through a thick bed of tape hiss.

TM404 - Syra
Andreas Tillander's third album from 2021, a warm, enveloping, fuzzed out take on acid as heard from the chill out room. many Roland devices utilized.

Benge - Modulisme Session 131
a new set from synth master Benge playing a dozen modular systems for 9 tracks of tasty bleepbloops. i really need to do a deep dive of Modulisme one of these days.
9 track album
Aindulmedir - The Winter Scriptures
i finally dove into dungeon synth after a bit of "where do i start?" trepidation. a lot of auditions later, i found i'm not into a lot of it at all, but the winter-synth variety has some really lovely stuff. i basically bought everything from this artist. this reminds me of some of the Scandinavian stuff from the 1990s that helped me get over industrial music. pretty and tranquil.

14 track album
Muslimgauze - Drugsherpa
i've been way into muslimgauze for decades now, haven't yet made my way through the entirety of his gargantuan discography. this one was (sort of) new to me. it is different mixes of material that appears on other albums like Al Zulfiqar Shaheed and Hamas Arc, which is some of my fave stuff from him. trancey & propulsive. listening to muslimgauze feels very appropriate these days, given the horrors in the news re: Israel.
7 track album
Yuri Urano - New Earth
ambient in all-caps probably. swooshing pads and filtered field recordings. very nicely done. took a chance on a download code from @dragonseyerecordings and i'm glad i did.
4 track album
Mukqs - Eye Frame
easily my favorite album from sampler-god Mukqs, annoyingly good. hard to believe it's all constructed with SP-404, with, as he famously always declares, "without overdubs". intensely captivating sound piles.
8 track album
Topdown Dialectic - Vol 2
top shelf weird dubtechno dance music from an alternate universe where Vladislav Delay had more influence than Basic Channel. confounding sample piles that somehow add up to a swirling kind of funk. extreme goodness.

Seefeel - Squared Roots
finally checking out the newer material from this outfit, this one from 2024. definitely feels like it's directly descended from the stuff they were up to in the 1990s. spooky, but also kinda jittery vibes.

:zoviet*france: - digilogue
i really wanted this album in the 1990s, but never had the $$ to get it until now. the zovs explore the tensions between analogue and digital equipment, and their respective failings and end up with some really intriguing, rhythmic soundworlds. great shit.

Lagowski - Strange Minds 1-10
i went on a big kick of @lagowski / S.E.T.I. stuff this year. i enjoyed the scruffy, informal weirdo vibes in his Strange Minds series... i'll link the first in the series, there's ten altogether.
track by Lagowski
Sustainer - Anticuario
loops of old, out of style music. pretty, sometimes unsettling. could be backroomsy type shit if you're into that.
6 track album
Monolake - Studio
2024 release from this venerable producer, who used to be on masto @roberthenke but isn't active any longer. his synclavier compositions stand apart from other people doing techno-adjacent music, and has always found a welcome place in my listening rotation.
10 track album
Vladislav Delay - Visa
another artist whose work dominated my listening year was Vladislav Delay (partner of @poemproducer). fractured, dubby samples colliding in a disorienting minimalist yet maximalist style that is fully unique to him. so much to learn from his music.
5 track album
Éliane Radigue - Feedback Works 1969-1970

Kali Malone - All Life Long
somber and severe compositions for choir, brass and organ. a touchpoint is Arvö Part, but a bigger touchstone is doom metal. fittingly, Stephen O'Malley from Sunn O))) is credited as producer. beautiful stuff for bleak times.
12 track album
O Yuki Conjugate - 1983 Unearthed
extremely tasty early industrial stuff (think Cabaret Voltaire from a more post-punk angle) from a band whose later work is much more sleek and features sometimes tacky ethno-exoticism. bass, guitar & synth with big drum machines and vocal samples.

øjeRum - Selected Percussive Works 1998 - 2001 Vol. II
ordinarily, if an artist i know more for abstract or ambient work (which øjeRum does splendidly) starts to incorporate beats that's when i tune out. this is a notable exception. this series currently has four entries, of which i have three... i plan to buy a lot of their work. really fantastic artist.

7 track album
Thomas Köner - Motus
Köner is known for extremely minimal, glacial drone music, but also for adding an experimental edge to his dub-techno collab w/ Andy Mellweg, Porter Ricks. this album is different from his normal atmospherics, closer to the sound of Porter Ricks' 2017 album Anguilla Electrica, but with the beats much more obscured. heavily filtered bass throbbing, and flitting saw waves. next level stuff, RIYL Azzazin by Muslimgauze

Dirk Serries - Streams of Consciousness Compiled
Serries returns to the style of melancholy ambient interlocking tone poems he made in Vidna Obmana in the 1990s and 2000s. i think guitar is his axe now, but you'd hardly know. RIYL Fripp's soundscapes.

Ensemble Nist-Nah - Spilla
Drum kits and gamelan instruments (along with other percussion tools) are the focus here for these frantic compositions from Will Guthrie out on Black Truffle this year. i feel like it'd be cliché to describe it as "propulsive", but it's propulsive. propulsive propulsive propulsive.
9 track album
gonna sneak this in this big thread because i have been listening to this stuff a lot.
it's a playlist i made of the artists that opened for Autechre on their North America 2025 tour. at least those who i know of that have released their sets on bancamp. @sean_ae @nnirror, @Nixtrove, @williamfields, Deep Glens and myself.
https://bandcamp.com/c_reider/playlist/opened-for-autechre-2025
Aryo Adhianto - Ngarep E
one of a pair of Aryo's releases i got down with this year. metallic sounding percussion on highly modulating rhythms and very strange microtonal scales, and someone saying "LIGHTS" over and over again. experimental electronic music from Indonesia. sick as hell.

Bjarni Gunnarsson - Fracas
the newest album from this artist, i went HARD into their music this year. computer music pushing the limits of mathematics as sound. music that comes with links to research papers. this shit sounds STIMMY AS HELL. haven't finished collecting all of the music from this artist, but i plan to get everything i can.
4 track album
Iannis Xenakis - Persepolis
had a mini obsession with this piece by the venerated legend of antifascist experimental music. this feels like the seed of so much industrial and noise music that came after. i've never seen it said, but i have always suspected that Neubauten's "Das Schaben" from Halber Mensch is a direct nod to this 1971 piece.

Oh, it's worth a follow !
I've been playing some of your tracks extensively (love "the Mending battle").
@c_reider "amber monitor" kind of struck me. Love the odd harmony (Wendy Carlos ftw!), lush and warm medieval futuristic overtones, relaxing but with a tense skeleton under the surface.
This track is now engraved in my brain (would still recognize it in 15 years :D ).
Must dig deeper the rest (and also the recos you posted which I faved).
@c_reider I'm not into the doomy thing, but Malone and O'Malley produced an album for this cellist which got a lot of praise. Railton shows up on Malone's releases too.
7 track album
@c_reider and my lucky last is just a general one based on the flavour of what you've shared so far - I find it very personal-sounding and intriguing. mostly quite pretty but sometimes discordant and surprising. I'm listening to it and wondered if it might fit in somewhere here.
