I’ve worked in disease prevention for quite a long time and I’ve landed on the following as having the greatest benefits to overall health: Exercise Vaccines Dietary variety/portion size Sufficient sleep No smoking Barrels of cash
The good news is that we can all do at least of some of these. The bad news is that there is really no way for me to monetize this groundbreaking wisdom. But as we head into the new year, wild goals aren’t necessary. These things could be started on any old day this year.
Now. Most of the things on this list of stuff might on the surface sound simple and easy (with the exception of the last), but all are deeply affected by the social determinants of health. As a society, if we make these things easier to do, then our society is healthier.
I’m not talking about putting pull-up bars in airports and posting videos of working out in denim jeans. I’m talking about things like a living wage, affordable housing, and safety and accessibility of a variety of foods.

@elizabethjacobs.bsky.social Perhaps you could monetise it by writing a book about the secret to a long life. You could call it "The Jacobs Method".

Maybe I'm biased, but personally I think that has a lovely ring to it.
