I bought a book in a lovely small bookstore in the small town of Keitum on the island of Sylt about two years ago. The store is a kind of a mythic place for me, every time we visit the island for vacation I have to go there and buy a book, it has a magic atmosphere to it. It is by Seneca and is called “About the brevity of life. About a happy life.” It has left a deep impression on me.

It says, “life is not short at all, everybody who’s whining about the brevity of life is lying. We just waste it, we don’t live it.” And it advocates for seeing and realizing the little things in life that are not small at all. And for finding Your own way of living. For being true to Yourself, which also means You have to understand Yourself. And there are all those consequences for Yourself and the people around You when You start to think and live according to what you’re finding out.
So I tried to distill these thoughts into these little and seemingly easy questions: “If You could do whatever You want, what would it be?” or “If You would live just until tonight, what would You do?”. And thinking about this and answering these questions might change the way You think about Your life and act accordingly.
