@Faintdreams There are a lot of reasons I knit, but one of them is that it's like buying something fancy on layaway with a secret discount. I like to think about what I would have to charge for labor if I sold it, but then not sell it, and then tell myself, "I am wearing $600 handstitched sweater, because I'm fancy." So I guess I'm into knitting for the glamour πŸ˜‚

@smutmag

I've never considered it like that before, but yes, your labour could have a monetary amount attached to it and as a maker you are worth it ! 🀣

To mangle an old phrase

'The cobblers children have no shoes but the knitters should always have at least thier own socks !' 🧢

@Faintdreams

All of the above plus is creative and I get things that really fit and are really what I want not what the fashion industry is willing to sell to me. Especially the quality I want.

@Faintdreams it's an all of the above to me, but basically when I entered therapy when I moved to this place, the therapist I got (who does a lot of fiber crafts) herself recommended (because I was starting to look at things like leg warmers which to this day I have never made with "I could make that I bet") as a coping mechanism.

and it really does help my mental health

and I'm AuDHD so I tend to concentrate better when I'm doing something with my hands, so reasons can vary as to why I'm doing it

@Faintdreams
The crafting process is exciting.

I like the feeling of building something, especially when I'm changing a pattern to make it just how I want it.

@Faintdreams I agree with most that've been mentioned.
It is also a question of pride in being able to finish something. To have vanquished (a bit hyperbolic but hey, that's the feeling ^^') my ability to procrastinate and the feeling of not being good enough to succeed in doing something.
The two recent examples being knitting a little snood for my daughter and dish covers for three members of my family (6 each ^^').
Seeing my little one wearing her snood everyday and happily makes my heart melt and I'm very satisfied with I've done with the other project.
In the end, it's the idea that I can so it - and successfully - while still developing skills that I'll be able to share.
