Was the record store ever your second home? 🤩

Great times!

@historyofpunkrock For sure. My college buddy and I lived at Tower Records, definitely a big hang in the 80s & 90s.

One of the highlights of my teenage years was taking trips to bigger cities with better record stores... and talking the ears off whoever was working at them.

Yes, in the 80's, I spent many days & hours in the many record stores still in San Francisco then, including the original Tower Records store at Bay & Columbus, where I bought most of the Japanese reissues of Blue Note, Emarcy & other jazz labels that are still in my LP collection .

@sgt1372 @historyofpunkrock Wauzi Records at Haight and Ashbury was a wonderful neighborhood spot to hang out.
@historyofpunkrock Spent a lot of time in college crate-digging at Rhymes Records in New Haven. Small store but a ton of high-quality, used vinyl. Even the dollar bins turned up good stuff.

To be honest - at the beginning there was mailorder. The only way in upper Bavarian province to get the stuff I wanted to have.
Then there was the Optimal Record Store in Munich, who is still alive (https://www.optimal-records.de/).
And untill today my second home is the Discy Record Store in Landsberg (By the way: The town where Johnny Cash bought his First guitar and formed his first band ). https://discy.de/

@historyofpunkrock I would regularly drive an hour from Sonoma County to shop in San Francisco and Berkeley. Tower, Rough Trade, Rasputin’s, Rather Ripped, Asta’s, Amoeba… I’m sure I’m forgetting some…
@historyofpunkrock absolutely. Record bins exert a mysterious pull on so many of us. From Tower in the 80s to Amoeba now... absolutely.
