Start of the project.

I'm making a top down sweater with a European shoulder.

Doing just stripes didn't blend / fade nicely enough so I'm adding a bit of texture at the color changes to blur it further. I think that works nicely.

Now on to write down some notes or I will forget what I've done so far ...

I've finished the "yoke" - sleeve sts are on hold, the v neck is done, now on to knitting on the round. It's also time for the next color switch.

The math has worked out quite nicely, I'm very pleased. And the fit looks good as well. I think I'll add a tiny bit of waist shaping and then flare out for the hips. The initial plan had been to work straight down, but it's going to be rather long so I want a bit of fit.

I'm at the fourth color now - one more change section and then the final color.

Things have worked out pretty neat for the waist shaping - I made a few decreases in the third single color section, then straight through the change and now increases until the next change.

I tried it on yesterday and I'm very pleased with the fit so far.

Colors are pretty true in this picture.

Homestretch for the body - I'm now separating front and back for the hem.

If I do the whole color sequence for the sleeves, they will be too long by a bit - body below arms will end up a bit longer than 50 cm, sleeves need to be about 44 / 45 cm.

Not quite sure, what to do. I really want to keep the whole sequence.

Thanks for the suggestions for the sleeves - I've been thinking back and forth and I think I have an idea, how to approach the "too long" sleeves by making it fold-back. Complicated to describe - I'm now trying it out and we will see, if it actually works.

I also realized that, while bringing (most of) my circular needles, I left my 20 cm DPN's at home. Which means I have to resort to magic circle / using 2 circs. I hate that technique.

First sleeve finished. I decided to make it exactly the same as the body, including a slit in the hem at the top. This way it folds up very nicely and then it has the perfect length.

Now on to the second sleeve (already started in the picture).

Not yet decided what to do with the border of the neckline. Maybe a striped sequence with some interlocking of colors?

Colors aren't the best, there isn't real daylight at the moment, always grey.

Better colors

Weaving in ends - a full evening job.

I didn't count, but it felt like it was at least 100 times I had to thread a needle.

Now off to washing and blocking

While the sweater is still drying I've rewound and weighed my leftovers. I started with 100g of each color, I've left over 175g of all colors combined. Pale pink is still 75g, while the central color (fuchsia) is only 16g.

In total it's more than enough for another project (a total of about 650m of a yarn that works best for me at a DK weight gauge). But with the different amounts - that requires some searching and planning.

That's it!

I love, how it came out, it fits really well (need to find a time slot with good light and my partner available to take good pictures when wearing it).

It's about 325 g or about 1.250 m with a bust width of 110 cm. It's probably possible to make it work only 4 colors, making the uni colored blocks a bit wider, especially the top one (from that color was left the most).

@FanCityKnits Beautiful! I'd wear it immediately.

@Fitzibitz

Thank you - it will get its premier as my (not ugly) Christmas sweater.

@FanCityKnits @fiberarts @knitting so gorgeous and so fast!!!

@maru

You could say it's my Dutch sweater - I made it nearly completely while on vacation there πŸ˜‰

Beautiful πŸ₯°
Oh, its a yarn from Bart and Francis,
can you leave an update how its wearing and washing?

@susannekris

It blooms beautifully when washed for the first time.

I used it for a cardigan last winter and it got worn quite a bit already and so far I can't complain.

@FanCityKnits That turned out really well! It's been fun watching this go from "What order should I put these colors in" to FO in less than a month!
