Hey Vienna & Surroundings, we're warmly inviting you to the fifth #permacomputing meetup – January 13th (2026) from 19:00-22:00, one last time at GT_'s lovely space at Alte WU/Spittelau (alas, just temporary use): https://gtblank.org/event/99

This time around we have the pleasure of having Maël Madon present their "Reflections on sufficiency for data centers", to quote them: "I am a researcher in Computer Science, with an interest in environmental impacts of computing. In this talk, I want to share with you some insights from my PhD work, in which we tried to go beyond efficiency measures for data centers, and rather think about "sufficiency". I will explain how we approached the problem, give some results and also personal thoughts on the question."

@Ansimorph, me, the GT_ crew and the local permacomputing community are looking forward to seeing you all there! (^▽^)/\(^▽^)

GT_ is a cooperative and inclusive space aimed at providing room for shared infrastructure and interdiciplinary discourse. Currently it focuses mainly on science, technology and the arts but this can shift with the interests of its users.

@freebliss @320x200 @Ansimorph A permacomputing meetup in Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s hometown sounds oddly appropriate. I imagine it would have been the only kind of computing he could potentially have countenanced

@acb As chance would have it, atop the roof of a neighbouring building of our meetup venue rests ... Hundertwasser's hat ;)

(As the story goes, Hundertwasser angrily left a meeting with the builders, declaring "Ich hau den Hut drauf!" ["I throw the hat on this" - austrian way to say "I'm done/I give up"] and the builders considered it a good idea and added his cap.)
