Utterly wild story about a nuclear generator lost atop a Himalayan mountain by the CIA 60 years ago. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/12/13/world/asia/cia-nuclear-device-himalayas-nanda-devi.html?unlocked_article_code=1.8k8.jOUn.daSfdUlyfo3e [Gift Link]
How Did the C.I.A. Lose a Nuclear Device in the Himalayas?

A plutonium-packed generator disappeared on one of the world’s highest mountains in a covert mission that the U.S. will not talk about.

@synapsenkitzler I literally linked to the article.
@mattblaze
i don"t understand your answer? 🤔
@synapsenkitzler I didn’t include all the information in the article in my post. Instead, I included a gift link to the article itself, which is much longer and more comprehensive than my post was.
@mattblaze @synapsenkitzler he's requesting that you add hashtags to boost the reach of the original post. Seems reasonable to me.
@perspectivet @synapsenkitzler If you read my profile, I clearly disclose that I use this wrong. I am old and set in my ways and my failure to use this website in your preferred manner is unlikely to change, despite your advice.
@mattblaze @synapsenkitzler no worries. Just a suggestion. Keep on posting great stuff.

@mattblaze

You’re so parsimonious with your fucks.

@wendynather @mattblaze Thanks for being bait, anyway. I'm blocking all Mastodon scolds so they don't ever show up in my mentions. TYFYS

@Nonya_Bidniss @mattblaze

Doing the same here for a very long time. Makes for a peaceful experience in this network or any other. Preemptive blocking even made Twitter livable for me.

@angelastella True. I had blocked literally thousands of people on Twitter before Elon bought it and I left on principle. I really had no problems there because of all the blocking. @mattblaze

How tragic. Excuse me, going to have a breakdown about it.

@angelastella @mattblaze Uhhh, I had a pretty good idea of what I was missing out on 😂
@wendynather @mattblaze I wonder what persimonious fucks would look like.
@mangochutney @wendynather I’m here to chew gum and give a fuck, and I’m all out of fucks. So I guess I’ll just enjoy my gum.

@perspectivet @mattblaze @synapsenkitzler Some of us just don't like hashtags. They're an eyesore, a pain in the ass for screen readers, and in my experience don't actually do all that much to increase reach anyway.

Users can do keyword searches these days, after all. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@perspectivet @mattblaze @synapsenkitzler advice from the account with 491 followers to the account with over 34k? 🤔

@mattblaze
Yes, thank you. My idea was to add some more information (potentially contamination of ganges/humans) and hashtags, so your posting will be found by more people here on mastodon.

Cause its such a unique story. And important to spread so maybe the dangerous thing will be removed.

@synapsenkitzler perhaps a major news outlet like the New York Times will see the hashtags and publish a story on this. That would really increase its reach!
