if any of these guys died on a friday, their replacement would be at their old desk by monday
@samhenrigold If nobody left, why is the screen in the bottom left off?
@ClickyMcTicker @samhenrigold and why is it still daytime at 9:15 p.m.
@jrmitch120 @ClickyMcTicker @samhenrigold It isn’t. That illuminated brick wall is an interior wall. It’s clearly night time out the actual window.
@ClickyMcTicker @samhenrigold saving power. You know, to Do MOrE fOR tHe COmpAnY!!
@samhenrigold @jwz number one rule for choosing a job: don‘t make awful people rich. I worked for awful people, but i made sure to cost them dearly. Only work for them, if you can cause damage in the process.
@samhenrigold The Apple slim-size keyboard looks downright ridiculous in a programming environment.
@frumble @samhenrigold From the looks of it, they are doing webshit so it's not like it matters.
@frumble @lukasweidinger @samhenrigold Furthermore, it's impossible to program with an Apple keyboard. It's impossible. Anyone who claims otherwise clearly doesn't program.
@frumble @samhenrigold If you vibe code you don’t need a num pad ;)
@samhenrigold Cool, cool. So, Ender's Game basically.

@samhenrigold Must be fake, or not real programmers.
Not a single screen shows ChatGPT!

Also reminds me of a chicken battery cage factory thing. We have like 8-10 times the space per "eng" where I work.

@samhenrigold
They are already dead inside.

@samhenrigold

Youth is wasted on the young.

@samhenrigold well, maybe after the screening interview, the peer-programming interview, the panel interview, the CTO interview, the swap to a different team interview, the re-panel interview, the manager interview and the four week wait for an offer to be signed off waiting period.
@samhenrigold Oof, I’ve had literal nightmares that look like this.
@samhenrigold @bens looks like a bunch of losers.
@samhenrigold Most of them haven't replaced their keyboard with a full sized mechanical keyboard, so you can tell these aren't the engineers.
@samhenrigold None of them have Slack or StackOverflow open, this is not the engineering department.
@samhenrigold pffft, desk would be filled within an hour max (assuming before 10pm)

@phredmoyer @samhenrigold Some companies really struggle to find people willing to put in 60-hour weeks on purpose.

I once worked at a consulting firm that swore 50-hour weeks were industry standard and not just in terms of raw time spent, but categorized and indexed into 15-minute units with a "percent productive" measurement of 90% or higher.

I once had a performance review at 9 PM. I pointed out that every single person except for the accountant was still working hard there on a Wednesday night instead of being home with their families, and they shouldn't have to make that a regular thing.

I lasted 18 months.
