Calibri: the smoking gun of forged documents.

Apparently The Smoking Gun website still exists. Who knew.

The Smoking Gun: Public Documents, Mug Shots

Public Documents, Mug Shots

Beginning to remember how I actually used to waste so much time online before I had a social media (Livejournal) account: things like the smoking gun, fark, daily comic strips by artists who turned out to be wronguns, etc.
@Nickiquote I love this so much. (And I’m even one of those weirdos who LIKES Calibri, at least in so much as it was a step up from the Times New Roman and Arial hegemony).

@Nickiquote

We should create and use as default a new police every year 😅

@Nickiquote if I had time for leisure I would stick with my old fave Palatino, for paper.
@jayalane @Nickiquote My dissertation feels seen.
@roadskater @Nickiquote I keep going back and forth as to whether your msg means your set your dissertation in Palatino or not? I find it very readable but slightly light in dimmer light. My mom ran a desktop publishing business before it was all electronic and she had these big books just full of font samples. And a light table and nice cutting devices and rulers. And blue pencils.

@jayalane @Nickiquote I think it was set in Palatino. Unfortunately, due to Apple's change in Mac disk drives, I haven't been able to read the original file in like 20 years! So I can't be 100% sure.

If you know someone with a set-up that can read early-mid 1990s Mac variable-speed "floppies", let me know! (At least it isn't on a ZIP disk!)

@roadskater @Nickiquote there is an enournous group of people that maintain that sort of thing on mastodon. #retrocomputing can anyone pull up a 1990s era dissertation from old Mac floppies?

@jayalane @roadskater @Nickiquote

Geographically speaking, where is the floppy?

@jayalane @Nickiquote And even if you use a font that existed in the right year, just the layout of the text can bust you!

Typeface of ‘wasteful’ diversity: Trump’s state department orders return to Times New Roman

Memo from Marco Rubio reportedly said cutting Calibri from official communication would ‘abolish yet another wasteful DEIA program’

The Guardian
@mighty_orbot @Nickiquote I'm astounded this isn't the onion.
@Nickiquote
You know what they say: where there's smoke, there's fire...
@Nickiquote So the reason the Trump regime want to stop using Calibri isn’t just “woke DEI,” it’s also to avoid tipping people off when they fake evidence.
@Nickiquote "...but it's weird that it happened thrice, right?"
@EponymousBosh This is only part of the list!
@Nickiquote Maybe one day, we'll have stories of Aptos being the downfall of fraudsters.
Holy sh!t, could this be a reason for Rubio to have his people revert to Times New Roman?
@Nickiquote
Always keep an _old_ computer and printer, and an old ream of paper, for forging documents.
@Nickiquote I am a huge roboto fan myself.
@Nickiquote Wonder if the same will happen with Aptos.
@Nickiquote @TauPan why can’t they use Rotis like normal people?
@Nickiquote now I'm thinking of a novel that starts with burglary in a computer history museum...
Quite Interesting (@qi.com)

In 2017, the daughter of the Pakistani Prime Minister was caught in a corruption scandal after submitting trust deeds allegedly written in 2006. Unfortunately for her the deeds were written using the Calibri font, which wasn’t widely available until 2007.
