I would like to take this opportunity to promote an excellent Free Software project that I discovered about 20 minutes ago:

https://codeberg.org/c4ffe14e/phice

This software, called Phice, enables you to read FaceBook pages without logging into Facebook. No more ads or annoying login prompts.

I installed it easily, on my build slave (where I also host an Invidious instance); it's also where I test Libreboot lbmk builds, hence "build slave".

I'm now running a private Phice instance.

GNU AGPLv3 licensed.

@libreleah oh that looks useful for viewing pages of companies that insist on using Facebook.

I'd prefer they didn't but it tends to be smaller cafes, restaurants etc and some of them are pretty good so I can just about forgive the Facebook page as your website

You got my hopes up that the green party was on the fediverse for a moment. Alas.. I have installed NixOS on a green party councillor's computer though.

@matthewcroughan i did tell two prominent castle point and rochford green reps in 2024 about libreboot also. they seemed to understand it conceptually at least. whether they've done any further research since then is to be seen.

if you ask me, using facebook for a political party is a major opsec no-no

Sadly it seems the reason people and organizations do this is because they believe truly in their heart that it is a form of free hosting. It is a cost cutting exercise. It's not really about reaching people as much as it is about that, at least for public services. So they view it as a way to get something for free, and are so underfunded. No critical thinking done of the long term consequences. Here in the Wirral, the police and fire services are largely on Facebook/Twitter and do not think that's a massive problem. To figure out what went wrong regarding a fire, etc you have to visit Facebook/Twitter.
Doubtful of them looking into it further. I used plymouth to make the green party logo show up on the councillor's laptop on boot. They didn't bat an eye. They didn't even know the party logo :(
@matthewcroughan @libreleah
Scottish Greens are on Mastodon.scot as well as some of their local groups.

@libreleah Boosting, but I'd rather there was an URL like Xcancel.com (nitter) that would save installing yet another thing that should remain in the domain of browsers.

Phice.book ??

@libreleah looks useful, have you ever encounter some rate limiting issue from Facrbook?
@libreleah Wow, das Teil ist wirklich cool. Schnell man nach Anleitung in 5 Minuten auch mit unprivileged #podman ans laufen gekriegt.
@giggls yeah, it's pretty easy. i just have mine running on port 5000 like it says, then i add a virtual host and reverse proxy in nginx. easy peasy.
