@talia_christine if it’s the only thing available, sure. Though some places make fries good enough that I’d prefer them plain to with ketchup.

@josh0 @[email protected] As a kid I learnt (ironically on a trip to Germany) to use English mustard on chips (as known as fries in the US). Still quite like that. The traditional English way was salt and malt vinegar. Which I kind of miss now that we've adopted the ketchup habit.

@terryb I don’t know that I’ve ever tried mustard on fries. Definitely going to give it a go!

As for nomenclature, there’s clearly a correct answer that everyone would inherently understand, and which avoids all ambiguity: they’re fries, and the crispy ones are crisps. It’s only the word ‘chips’ that introduces any ambiguity! But ketchup belongs on none of them!
