OK so I'm starting an email list.

I am trying to get an idea for numbers here (not looking for feedback on the idea, really).

So here's a poll: would you sign up for a Veronica Explains email list?

This would be mostly around the same topics I make videos about, but I'm hoping to use the blog for smaller topics that the algorithm wouldn't like as a video, imagine once or twice a week posts, give-or-take.

(I seriously won't be offended if you say no, I for one mostly follow websites via RSS.)

Yes, I would sign up for a vkc email list
58.2%
No, I wouldn't sign up for a vkc email list
41.3%

@vkc this is a handy reminder to add your blog to my RSS reader
@vkc Patreon also supports newsletters. Would that also be an option for you?
@vkc mailing lists are more effective to me than any other "inbox" medium
@vkc I voted no, but purely for the reason that some sort of pulling (e.g. via an RSS feed) is IMO the way news should be received instead to pushing via e-mail.
I just thought about this the other day, even though I'm tech-loving, I could be a victim of phishing without knowing. And the easiest way to get me would be with faked e-mails from the small businesses whose newsletters I've subscribed to (clothing brands...).
Pulling from a source instead would solve this issue, quite fascinating.
@vkc I would sign up because it's you. I don't normally read email lists. I would prefer if this email list was like Substack and Mailchimp -- not in their cloudiness but in the fact that you can read those platforms via RSS. RSS is for broadcasting.
@vkc
I'll subscribe to an RSS feed…
@vkc On the fence, voted yes in the end as I've been too lazy to get an RSS reader / browser working, from what the general vibe about the state of RSS support seems to be, it sounds like it might be a bit of work and not particularly worth it if not many sites support it.
@vkc PeerTube's relative barrenness kinda covers that for me already! But YouTube watchers may get good use from it.

@vkc repeating what others said, would likely not subscribe to a mail feed mostly as preference to RSS over mail.

(also that my mailboxes are a mess... i should get on that)

@vkc Would it work with something like Kill the Newsletter? (newsletter to RSS tool)

If so, yes for me. =)

@vkc
not feedback on the idea per se
I do subscribe to RSS feeds and not email newsletter type things

purely for selfish / sanity reasons that if I get behind with feeds I can just scan the subject lines, bulk mark read and not get anxious about it,
whereas for email I feel like it swamps if I don't do the admin for a few days
because it pushes personal emails off the front page of the InBox.

@vkc
I can barely keep up with the stuff I already follow XD
@vkc a no from me only ‘cos I find it impossible to keep up with email & mostly use RSS so I can go & read stuff when I have a block of time to scan through my feed

+1

@vkc personally it's NO for more email spam, I'm trying to keep my inbox as clean as possible.. But just added your blog to my RSS reader
@vkc
Yes (obviously I am a slow reader)
