“If everyone who streamed All Hell on Spotify had done so using Tidal instead, we would have received an extra £31,847.38, which would double the amount we made from streaming of the album in this time period. Or if everyone used Apple Music it would have been £12,331 more.”

Los Campesinos! break down streaming royalties. In other news, Fuck Spotify.

Los Campesinos!

Following on from this, people have been asking about streaming rates compared with YouTube (worse even than Spotify!) and Qobuz (A bit more than Tidal!). Qobuz is currently the #2 highest paid streaming rate, the #1 is actually… would you believe… Peloton!

For me, streaming is a supplementary to my own music collection (Bandcamp & physical media), couldn't get on with Qobuz or Deezer, I really liked Tidal (but it has a 10k song limit) so currently use Apple Music.

@jonhicks what do you mean by songs limit on Tidal? Like, you can only have 10k in your account? 👀
@artlucas 10,000 items (tracks, albums, artists, playlists combined)
@artlucas @jonhicks, does an album with ten tracks in it count as one or eleven “items”?
@volemo @artlucas I'm hazy on that kind of detail, all I know is that it isn't enough and I've hit my limit :/
@jonhicks I see! I wonder why 🤔
@artlucas I *think* it's a technical limitation, and one that probably doesn't bother most folks. My wife rarely saves anything to her library, so it wouldn't affect her.
@jonhicks Makes sense! It probably wouldn't bother me too, I think 10k is quite a lot 😅
