Buying the Kinesis Advantage 360 keyboard was a mistake | Angelika.me

Why this beast of a keyboard did not work for me and what I ended up using instead.

@angelikatyborska

Mmm. I had a similar experience some years ago. (https://zasm.earth/maltron-notes) I've come to the conclusion that the best keyboard would be a sort of gel pack that you can move the keys around on in three dimensions until it fits both the shape and dynamics of your hands, and then adjust as your hands change, because I'm sure they do, according to time of day...

@angelikatyborska maybe it was worth to go through this swamp to have a better idea of where not to go πŸ˜‰
The thing you ended up with looks super nice though!
@klappradla I think so. If I didn't try it out now, I would still be wondering whether I should try it out at some point. Now I know. And I think I'll hold onto that keyboard for a while, given how expensive and hard to buy it was. Just in case I ever really develop serious wrist problems that motivate me to attempt to swap again.
@angelikatyborska Whoaa, two vertical mice, one for each hand 😯 I have it slightly differently, but also two-handed.
@pepelsbey Yes, sometimes my forearm or hand pain gets so bad that I need to give my right hand a few days off πŸ₯². I never tried and external trackpad, but using the trackpad on the laptop for 10 minutes gives me wrist pain the next day, so I guess that's not for me either.
@angelikatyborska I only use the trackpad for swiping, all the clicking and pointing happens via the mouse. But yeah, when I have to edit podcasts on the go using the built-in trackpad, my wrist gets really bad the next day πŸ₯²
@angelikatyborska it’s not a bad thing to give up, and you found a great keyboard in the end!
@angelikatyborska I was going to say Incase took over the Microsoft sculpt stuff and are releasing the original keyboards again but that Kinesis looks better! I went to an Alice layout Keychron when my last sculpt died but think I’m going to try that new Kinesis!
@mikhailbot I decided against the Incase keyboard for a few reasons:
- It's currently not available on their website
- I never used the extra numpad, I have zero need for a numpad
- I like the option to use the keyboard wired (now that my cable-eating cat is no longer with us, I can have all the cables I want)
@angelikatyborska ah yea I think one of them we can get in Canada but not the tenkeyless one! Imma be grabbing the one you got, seems to be perfect successor to the sculpt!
