The kids had this Lenovo Ideapad miix510 for school, until the heatsink mount of the motherboard broke and even with my repair attempts it ran hot and noisy.

So it sat there for a while until I found refurbished motherboards for sale, so now it has an i7 with 8GB, a good heatsink mount and a new battery.

Might use it myself on-the-go. It still has Ubuntu on it in dual boot because that's more touchscreen friendly...

Installed Debian Trixie with KDE (netinstall from a small USB stick) and "everything just works".

Amazing installing, onboarding and user experience.

Since the laptop has a tablet with detachable keyboard formfactor, I checked touch-friendly desktop environments and it was either KDE or gnome, so that choice was easy... (do not ask, I will not be baited into a gnome usability rant)

And no surprise, this thing now runs much faster than with the windows that was installed on it πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

found the pressure sensitive pen that came with it *and* discovered I still had a spare AAAA battery for it

installed Krita and doodled for an hour 😊

(and yes the pen just worked out of the box as well, amazing how far linux has come)

@peturdainn nice, where do you check for refurbished parts? I need a touchscreen for a dell 14-2-in-1. Screen is slight broken at the bottom which reduces the touch capabilty to 30% of the screen (visual is working 100%). Dell is asking 378 eur for it (50% of the price for a similar new latop (with higher specs))
@haerench I normally google around and check reviews. Found this board on aliexpress which is normally not the place where I would buy this but the seller looked OK. Tons and tons of internals for different brands and models.
(had a quick look, they only do internal boards, no displays)
